World Book Night, held on April 23, is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. This month will be the third year for US participation and the fourth worldwide, and to kick it off, there will be 23 simultaneous WBN Kick-Off events on April 22, 2014 around the country.
The wonderful Brazos Bookstore will host the event here in Houston, and I’m excited and honored to be part of the celebration. Please join us to learn more about World Book Night, and to meet some of the givers and hear their moving stories about how they’ve seen lives changed–sometimes even their own–by giving away copies of their favorite books. Brazos is just one of two bookstores in the country that will feature the launch of the proprietary, original World Book Night e-book containing eight short pieces by authors (including me), booksellers and librarians. And all attendees will receive the gift of a WBN edition of Shakespeare’s Sonnets.
There is exceptional beauty and healing to be discovered between the pages of a book, and possibly even more when that book is pressed into the hands of someone who’s never owned one of their own.
