Lone Pine Lake

Back home today after a nice long time in the mountains of upstate Colorado. The cabin where we stayed was made of logs, and situated on a cozy lake. Clouds drifted constantly by, sometimes bringing a thunderstorm to the afternoon. At night, the sky was a diamond-studded canopy. There was no television, and very limited Internet access. It was perfect.

It wasn’t as Spartan as Thoreau’s self-imposed exile, but there was plenty of time for reflection and writing, and the “tonic of wildness.”
