“Every artist asks the question, ‘Where do you get your ideas?’ The honest artist answers, ‘I steal them.’”
This is Austin Kleon‘s first bit of witty wisdom in his just-published book, STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST: 10 THINGS NOBODY TOLD YOU ABOUT BEING CREATIVE. The title is a little misleading if you subscribe to his (and other quoted sources’) theory that nothing is original. So somebody has said these ten things along the way. But nobody has put them together in such a friendly, gentle, encouraging and visually-appealing way as Kleon has. I read the whole thing in an hour, and smiled the whole way through. It was a perfect and charming package of inspiration on a day that I really needed it. But make no mistake; I’ll be referring to individual chapters and the ideas within them whenever I need a pick-me-up as I follow my own creative path.
